Last Friday, we switched our phone service over to TDS which was supposed to provide us more options and better customer service for less money. Great! Prior to the switch, we had 5 total phone lines- 1 fax and 4 regular. When someone was on the line, there was a light next to that line, telling everyone else that it was not available and when you picked up the phone, you immediately got the next open line. With me so far?
Well, after the switch, we had 1, count it, 1 operating phone line. If someone was on the line and someone else was trying to call? Busy signal. A fax coming through and trying to place a call out? No dice. (Good thing I have a lot of cell phone minutes, my boss, however, was SOL given that she barely knows how to operate her cell phone and always forgets to charge the battery). We called them (from a cell of course) and they were like, "Is it a big inconvenience for you because I'm not sure when we'll be able to get it fixed?" Ummm... yeah, it is. HELLO?
We have been around and around with their customer care department, their repair department, and their technicians so much that I'm beginning to feel as if we are all part of the TDS office family. In fact, if I don't get an invite to their Holiday party this year, I'm going to feel a little left out. :) I have now learned of such a thing as a "Hunt Group Sequence" which sounds like some wierd alterna-teen band, but actually is the set up need to operate the way we want to. Apparently, we also switched from regular business lines to something called Centrix which I haven't quite been able to figure it out, but it sounds cool, so I'm OK with it. However, they can't seem to get Centrix coordinated with our actual phone system. Now, we at least have more than one line, and things work OK when 2 people are on the phone, but when more than 2 people get on the phone, all hell breaks lose and everyone can hear each other's conversations. What's that about lawyer-client confidentiality again?
Allegedly, we do have voicemail, but
no one knows how to access it. Actually, I'm serious. We asked TDS and they were like, 'Ummm... we'll try to find instructions and get back to you." That was yesterday morning. Awesome.
Well, at least I know if this whole lawyer thing doesnt' work out, I can always get a job at TDS.
